Guest Speaker, Prof. Brian Sindel

Professor Brian Sindel will be speaking on his research-based experience with weed invasions on the sub-Antarctic Macquarie Island. His talk, titled, Out in the Cold, will be shared at the Granite Borders Christmas Party, 14th December 2023 at 5pm. Come along to this fascinating talk, along with reports from our Landcare groups (from 4pm) at the Landcare office in Tenterfield, 45 Martin Street.

Brian has been researching and teaching in the world of weeds at the University of New England (UNE) in Armidale for over 30 years. Work on Macquarie Island has definitely been one of the highlights for him. In this talk, he will explain what the team from UNE learnt about weed invasions in the extreme sub-Antarctic and Antarctic environment from their two research projects and several expeditions to Macquarie Island between 2012 to 2018 as well as the discoveries they made about the environment itself, the vegetation, the wildlife and the logistics of getting to and doing research in such a cold, wet, windy and remote place.
