Field investigation for evaluation of habitat condition in areas impacted by bush fires in Tenterfield

5th Aug - 29th Apr 2022

($24,770) This Landcare Led Bushfire Recovery project has been supported by the Australian Government’s Bushfire Recovery Program for Wildlife and their Habitat. This project will evaluate and report on habitat conditions in areas impacted by recent bushfires.  It will guide future Landcare projects and provide some insight to local land managers on the plight of local fauna and potential future recovery options for native species.  It will assist Landcare to target and clearly identify on ground recovery and resilience projects. The included surveys will use key sites to determine habitat loss and recovery.  The report will also include comparisons between burnt and unburnt areas using a rapid assessment approach to collect data on a simplified set of habitat condition indicators. A “data-mining” exercise to compile historic and recent evidence of fauna populations and habitat change in relation to fires at key sites in the Tenterfield district will also be done.
