Tenterfield Community Garden Upgrades - Fire to Flourish
Tenterfield Community Garden Landcare group were granted $15,000 through the Fire to Flourish program for garden upgrades. Works included construction of a much needed shelter and seats, a native tree and shrub windbreak, signs, soil, improvement facilities and shade house). These changes will make gardening more comfortable & facilitate its social-mental health function. The improvements also enhance the group's capacity to produce vegetables, fruit & flowers to supply the local Farmer's Markets, providing local organic paddock to plate produce. Granite Borders Landcare & the Tenterfield Community Garden are more resilient as a result of this project, having proactively negotiated and resolved numerous challenges along the way. The success of the garden will literally feed back into community, by way of produce for sale at local markets & donation avenues. The garden is better resourced, so that it achieves the underlying objective of providing a haven for volunteers to come and garden, get their green thumb fix and spend time either together with like minded people, or in the solace of the vegetative solitude.
This project resulted in cooperative relationships being built between Landcare, the Fire to Flourish team, Tenterfield TAFE & Tenterfield Shire Council.
