Repair, Recycle & Upcycle

14th Nov 2026

Learn practical skills. Reduce waste. Connect with your community.

Have you ever caught your favourite jeans on a barbed wire fence, or have a shirt tucked away that deserves a second chance? Or simply want to discover the creative art of eco-printing and natural dyeing?

Join Granite Borders Landcare and the talented local artisans from MAKE IT Tenterfield (Kay and Marie) for a fun, hands-on workshop where you'll learn practical ways to repair, refresh and transform clothing you already own.

During these workshops you'll discover how to:

  • repair everyday clothing and refresh tired garments with simple creative techniques
  • turn rips and tears into unique design features
  • explore eco-printing using surrounding native flora
  • refresh something plain and create your own one-of-a-kind garment to take home.

Whether you're completely new to sewing or simply looking for fresh ideas, you'll leave with new skills, renewed confidence and a unique garment that reflects your own creativity.

Morning and afternoon sessions offer the same activities, so simply choose the session that best suits you.

Why does it matter?

Australians discard more than 200,000 tonnes of clothing every year, with much of it ending up in landfill or exported overseas. Keeping clothing in use for longer through repairing, reusing and upcycling is one of the simplest ways we can reduce waste and lessen our environmental footprint.

By giving an existing garment a new life, you're helping to:

  • reduce textile waste and save valuable resources
  • embrace the circular economy
  • express your own creativity and inspire others to repair rather than replace.

No harsh chemicals. No expensive equipment. Just creativity, practical skills and a fresh perspective on the clothes you already own.

Bring along a garment to repair and a light-coloured cotton T-shirt or fabric item for eco-printing and let us help you transform it into something uniquely yours.
