Green Hooded Orchid Surveys
GBLC Staff and members of GBLC, Sarah Caldwell, Dr Andrew Pengelly and Theresa Clifford, completed two native vegetation surveys for the Green Hooded / Greenhood Orchid (Pterostylis gibbosa). Dr Beth Mott (Senior Threatened Species Officer, DCCEEW) visited on the second survey (1/08/2026) with two orchid specialists, Graham Bradburn and Peter Eygelshoven to collect specimens for genetic testing.
This project emerged from a collaboration between Granite Borders Landcare and the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), thanks to the plant conservation activities of some of our GBLC members! This was a great opportunity to input into the protection and knowledge building around specific plant species. The images here show an actual Greenhood Orchid rosette taken on the day, and a flower spike (inflorescence), which would have matured in the coming weeks.
First image by GBL member, Leeza Wishhart is one of the winning entries for the GBL Bushland Series Photo Competition at the Tenterfield Show (2026, sponsored by Regional Australia Bank).
