Fire Workshop series: 1. Fire and Biodiversity

Kicking off our Fire Workshop series will be the ecological perspective, Fire and Biodiversity. This workshop will be co-delivered by two ecological experts: Alexander Dudley and Dr Peter Croft.

Topic 1: Fire and Biodiversity - an issue of time and place

Presenter: Alex Dudley (co-author of the Faunaverse series) has worked in environmental education and fauna surveying since 1990. He has been mentored by senior fire ecologists across four states and territories, and marries his knowledge of fauna and biodiversity with the complexity of our changing landscapes and the nature of fire.

Topic 2: Cultural burning and fire management context

Presenter: Peter Croft (PhD) has spent his career in natural resource management, working as an animal handler at Taronga Zoo, pasture researcher in the central and western divisions for the Department of Agriculture. In his 33 years as a Senior Ranger and Biodiversity Officer with NPWS, he has conducted flora and fauna surveys, fire management, fire impact assessments on wildlife habitat and fire ecology.
