Our Web Site

Welcome to the ...

Granite Borders Landcare Committee ... Web site.

The GBLC is a cross border, cross catchment umbrella group representing Landcare groups sharing a common interest in natural resource management

This website is an ongoing work in progress, resting upon the time, effort and passion of the many community members involved.

What's news?

  • Caring for Our Country- the new federal government has changed the way that natural resource management (NRM) will be funded. Rather than using the traditional format of Envirofunds for on-ground works and the National Landcare Program, all funding for NRM now comes from a single project known as "Caring for Our Country", with six national priority areas, through integrated projects designed to deliver multiple targets and outcomes. Granite Borders Landcare Committee has 'partnered' in a number of projects and submitted a number of small projects, aimed to deliver against biodiversity, sustainable farm practices and community skills, knowledge and engagement. Please stay tuned... If you would like more information about Caring for Our Country please see the website www.nrm.gov.au or talk to us at the Landcare Office, Martin Street Tenterfield, phone (02) 6736 3500.

  • Granite Borders Landcare Committee has limited funding still available under the National Landcare Program "Enhancing Sustainable Agriculture - Granite Borders".  This will allow native trees and shrubs to be planted in the Tenterfield, Deepwater and Emmaville areas in Spring 2009, as has happened over previous years. We are collecting "expressions of interest" for spring tree planting- please let us know if you would like a form- and please start preparation and plans for your tree planting (weed spraying and deep ripping). For more information or to participate please contact the office on 02 67363500 or email landcare@halenet.com.au

Finding Landcare's Champions!

The peak body for Landcare in the North of the State, the New England North West Network Chairs has decided the local ‘Landcare Champions’ for the Landcare and Border Rivers-Gwydir CMA Regional Awards.

Tenterfield Shire Council has been named as the "Local Council Landcare Champion" for 2009. This award recognises 13 years of fantastic support from TSC, providing and looking after our office in Martin Street, Tenterfield. Council has also partnered with Landcare in a number of important weed eradication projects throughout the area. We would like to thank the councillors and staff for their on-going support of Granite Borders Landcare.

Congratulations are also due to the Tenterfield Naturalists, who were named runners-up in the Community Groups and Urban Landcare categories. This is again worthy recognition of a group that has achieved so much. We would like to acknowledge our other nominees, The Border Landcare Organic Group, Rex Maddocks and Jane I'ons, Rob and Cath Wheatley and St Josephs Primary School. Your contributions to Natural Resource Management in our area are invaluable. Keep up the good work.

A presentation lunch will be held on Thursday July 23rd 2009 at Inverell Golf Club, starting at 12 o'clock. For further details please call Fiona Adams on 02 67211241 or talk to the Granite Borders Landcare office.

Soils baseline information day

Thankyou to all the landholders who participated in the soils baseline project, with samples being collected over ten days at the end of last April by Dr Peter Bacon. These were tested for a few different soil biological, physical and chemical parameters. These results are currently being delivered to property owners, We would like to invite all those who participated, and anyone else interested to a field day to discuss the results with Dr Bacon. This will be held at Robert Duff's property 'Filmore' on the Bruxner Hwy east of Tenterfield. It will be on Wednesday 29th July 2009, starting at 1:30pm. Please RSVP by Monday 21st to the Granite Borders Landcare office (02) 6736 3500 or email helensmith@gblc.org.au.
