2012 Revegetation Poject

Granite Borders Landcare is now seeking expressions of interest from landholders who want to plant native trees and shrubs on their properties in 2012. Through funding from Caring for our Country - Community Action Grants, the Granite Borders area landholders can be provided with trees and tree guards. Landcare, with the assistance from Mole Station Native Nursery, will provide advice for ground preparation, species selection and weed control.

Trees are planted for a variety of reasons including wildlife habitat, erosion control and stream-bank stabilization, as well as shade and shelter for pastures and livestock.

There is an insert in this publication of the Granite Borders Landcare newsletter for an Expression of Interest for the 2012 Revegetation Project which can be faxed on (02) 6736 3500 or mailed back to Granite Borders Landcare, PO Box 400, Tenterfield NSW 2372. You can also download the EOI form from our website, www.graniteborderslandcare.com.au.

Any landholders who are interested in participating in the tree planting projects may also contact the Project Manager Amanda Craig at the Landcare Office on (02) 6736 3500 between 9am - 3pm weekdays.

Repairing the Damage of January 2011 Floods Project

$596,750 Flood Grant for the District.

Granite Borders Landcare Committee has been successful in a grant in which it will receive $596,750 in funding from the Federal Governments Caring for our Country program. This project is to address the effects of the 2011 floods on the natural resources and assets of the region. Approximately half of the money is to be spent on weed eradication and the other on on-ground works relating directly to landscape damage.

Landholders and Managers are asked to contact the Landcare Office for an Expression of Interest (EOI) form. This form is to be filled out as the first stage of applying for funding. The EOI form will be available as of Monday the 16th  January and EOI will close on the 9th March.

This project was put forward to continue the Flood Recovery works carried out by Northern Rivers and Border Rivers-Gwydir CMA’S and to address the needs of Landholders and Managers who did not have the opportunity for funding under this project or other funding which was available.

Landholders who submitted an Expression Of Interest to Granite Borders in 2011 for the CMA’S flood recovery projects and were not funded will need to reapply under the new Granite Borders EOI as this is a new project. All Expressions of Interest will be assessed by a specialist panel that will consist of representatives of the CMA’S and Landcare Networks.

The Weeds component of the funding will address four Weeds of National Significance; Blackberry, Chilean Needle Grass, Lantana and Willows. Programs for these weeds have been established in partnership with Tenterfield, Glen Innes and Inverell Local Governments and the CMA’S Invasive Species Officers.

To receive an EOI form or for further information contact Amanda Craig Project Manager on 02 67363 500 between 9am – 3pm weekdays.
